An estimated 287,000 Indiana residents suffer from hunger, according to Gleaners Food Bank's website. The local organization collects, stores and distributes food and critical grocery products to qualifying agencies who serve the public directly. Among those agencies are food pantries—as well as soup kitchens, halfway homes and emergency shelters. Volunteers are always needed at Gleaners. Special Olympics Indiana reaches nearly 12,000 athletes throughout the state of Indiana. The organization provides sports-training for children and adults with intellectual disabilities year around.
