This cottage once served as the home of James Whitcomb Rileys housekeeper, Miss Katie Kindell, who was highly respected by the household she served - so much so, that the lady of the house, Mrs. Charles Holstein, willed the household goods to Miss Kindell upon her death in 1916. The cottage was built in 1856 as a one-story frame cottage, and underwent extensive expansion in 2003.
