Indianapolis TV Stations Opt to Convert to Digital Broadcasting

By Christy Pingleton, About.com

While the DTV Delay Act signed into law by President Obama on Feb. 11 gave television stations the option of delaying the conversion from analog to digital TV until June 12, Indianapolis's TV stations pulled the plug on analog TV on the original date of Feb. 17.

The DTV Delay Act extended the deadline for conversion from analog to digital TV from Feb. 17 to June 12; however, stations were not required to wait until then, and approximately 1/3 of the nation's TV stations opted to stop broadcasting on analog airwaves and begin broadcasting only in digital on the original date of Feb. 17.

Indy stations and their network affiliations that fall into this category include the following:

  • WISH-TV: CBS
  • WRTV: ABC
  • WTHR: NBC
  • WXIN: Fox
  • WTTK: CW
  • WFYI: PBS
  • WCLJ: TBN
  • WIPX: n/a
  • WTIU: PBS
  • WTTV: n/a
  • WDTI: IND
  • WNDY-TV: MYTV
  • WIPB: PBS
  • WHMB-TV: IND

Indy residents who formerly relied on an antenna to pick up these stations will no longer be able to view them without a digital converter box.
