Enjoy Plenty of Live Music, Theater and Museum Exhibits


November is here and with it, cool temperatures and the promise of the holiday season. This month, there are a lot of great events. I've tried to combine some holiday-themed events with regular top picks. This month you can enjoy plenty of live theater, some great musical performances and much more.

'Jingle Rails' at the Eiteljorg Museum

Jingle Rails, a popular holiday exhibit at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art opens this month. The exhibit features a series of trestles, bridges, tunnels and trains that wind through detailed replicas of both the city of Indianapolis and Western landmarks. Eight trains wind through the elaborate landscape, including lighted passenger trains and freight trains. The exhibit is free with regular museum admission. Museum entrance is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $6 for children. Children under 4 are free.

'Follow the North Star'

Conner Prairie's nationally-acclaimed, award-winning 'Follow the North Star' experience was developed from years of extensive research. Visitors are immersed in the life of a fugitive slave, fleeing from captivity and running for their lives. This program will truly makes this country's slave history come to life. Cost is $20 per person and reservations are required. Must be 12 years or older. Some dates sell out quickly.

63rd Annual Christmas Gift and Hobby Show

Imagine five days of shopping - all under one roof! The Christmas Gift and Hobby Show has become a big Indianapolis tradition. With over 350 exhibitors, spanning over 4 acres, you'll likely to find something for everyone on your list. The event includes visits with Santa, entertainment and http://oldnationalcentre.com/food vendors. Admission is $10 for adults; children under 13 are free. Wednesday and Thursday, seniors are $7 with ID.

When: November 7 - 11, 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday; 10 a.m. - 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday; 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Sunday

1927 Cotton Club Flapper Party and Casino Night

If you have some extra money to spend, this event sounds really cool. The Madam Walker Theatre steps back in time to the 1927 Cotton Club. It's a flapper party, combined with casino night. Experience the grand piano, live music, pearls, hats and tuxedo jackets. The event includes dancing, casino games, drinks and hors d'ourves in the Grand Casino Ballroom. Entrance into the party is $100 and includes 2 drink tickets, complimentary hors d'ourvres and gaming pieces.

'Billy Elliot'

Based upon the 2000 film with music by Elton John, this is a about a young boy and his struggles to find himself in a difficult world. This performance is not appropriate for young children and contains a lot of strong language and some violence. It is also over two hours long, making it difficult for young children. Tickets range in price from $27 - $80.

Indy International Festival

Celebrate Indy's diverse cultural heritage at the Indy International Festival. Enjoy the sights, sounds, tastes and smells of over 50 countries. This year's event features professionally built LEGO representations of the Taj Majal and the London Bridge, Punch and Judy show, Richens-Timm Irish Dancers, Polish folk song and dance ensemble and a European gaming center that includes bocce ball and other European sports. Tickets for the event are $10 for adults; $6 for children ages 6-12. Children 5 and under are free. Advance adult tickets are $8 and can be purchased on the event website.

'West Side Story'

West Side Story is one of the most popular musicals of all time. The film won 10 Academy Awards® and is noted for Leonard Bernstein's powerful score. The Indiana Symphony Orchestra will perform this powerful score live with the film. This unique and exciting performance is sure to delight West Side Story fans. Tickets range in price from $22.50 - $87.50.

Where: The Palladium, Center for the Performing Arts, Carmel

When: November 18, 7:30 p.m.


The magical world of Dr. Seuss comes to life in this clever Musical that includes all the favorite characters such as Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, and Jojo, a little boy with a big imagination! The story centers around Horton, who finds himself faced with several challenges. This event is perfect for the entire family. Friday, Saturday and Sunday performances are $20. Thursday performances are $10.

There is also a special Green Eggs and Ham Brunch on November 25. The event package includes the Green Eggs and Ham Brunch, a ticket to the performance of Seussical, a commemorative photo, story time with the cast, and many other fun activities. The brunch begins at 12:00 and curtain is still 2:30. The cost for this event is $35. Tickets may be purchased online.
