Indy Bustles with Events this month - from Gen Con to IndyFringe!

Indianapolis is heating up with these top events. Whether you're a gamer, a fan of the theatre or an avid state fair attendee, there's plenty to keep you busy this month!

Indiana State Fair

It's the "Year of the Dairy Cow" at this year's Indiana State Fair which runs from August 3 - 19 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Enjoy tons of exhibits, lots of concerts and entertainment, food and midway fun and much more at the fair. Admission is $10 for adults and children 5 and under are free. Discount tickets can be purchased for $7 at all Indiana Walmart stores, Indiana CVS/pharmacy stores, Indiana Farm Bureau offices, The Marten House Hotel, and the Indiana State Fairgrounds Ticket Office. For the first time ever, a multi-day pass is available. The pass is good for admission for three days at the fair and can be purchased at the same locations. Discount days and offers are also available

Bon Appetit: Celebration of Julia Child's 100th Birthday

City Market will celebrate the late Julia Child's 100th birthday during the week of August 8 - 15. The event will feature cooking demonstrations, merchant specials, a photo booth, Julia Child trivia and more!

'A Raisin in the Sun'

The Madam Walker Theatre Center presents the timeless tale, 'A Raisin in the Sun'. The cast of professional inner city theatrical artists bring to life the story of an African-American family striving to survive in 1950s Chicago. August 10 is "Community Night" with a showtime of 8:00 p.m. and tickets are only $7.99! All other performances are $19.99 for youth & $39.99 for adults.

When: August 10; 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.; August 11 at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. and August 12 at 4:30 p.m.

Colts Training Camp

It's a new start for the Indianapolis Colts and Training Camp is the perfect opportunity to get a close look at how the team is shaping up. In addition to viewing the practices, there are tons of activities to do at the Indianapolis Star Colts City! Colts City includes inflatables, rock climbing wall, Play 60 Zone, sponsor booths, Colts In Motion traveling museum, Colts Pro Shop tent, Colts cheerleader autograph sessions, appearances by Blue, ticket giveaways and live music performances during evening practices. Camp activities are free and open to the public. There is a $10 parking fee per vehicle (per session) and $20 for buses (per sessions.

Jackson Browne

Jackson Browne has sold over 17 million albums in the United States alone. He has written and recorded several notable songs throughout his career including "These Days", "The Pretender", "Running On Empty", "Lawyers in Love", and many others. Ticket prices are $29.50 to $99.50.

'Encounter' Science Fiction Exhibit

The worlds of fantasy and science fiction blend into this unique arts experience for the whole family. The Garfield Park Arts Center is currently hosting this exhibit which features everything from dragons to robots to outer space. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

XDL Championship Series 2012

The XDL Championship Series unites motorcycle racing enthusiasts. The event includes a trials demo, an XDL photo zone, a kid’s zone, vendors, a bike show, display’s and demos rides as well as a beer garden. Tickets range in price from $10 - $25. Kids 12 and under are free.

Gen Con

Gen Con Indy is the original, longest running, best attended, gaming convention in the world. The convention features over 5,000 events. Tickets range in price from $30 & $50 for one day badges; $80 for the four day badge. Children eight and under are free with paid parent admission.

IndyFringe

For a change of pace, check out the IndyFringe Festival. One of several summer festivals downtown, the 11-day festival offers lots of off-beat theatrical fun on Mass Ave. Enjoy 280 shows at seven theatres featuring dance, drama, comedy, music, magic and cabaret. Ticket prices for IndyFringe shows are $10 per person, per show. A one-time $5 badge is required and is good for the entire festival.

Gipsy Kings

Gipsy Kings—whose members hail from the gypsy settlements in Arles and Montpelier in the south of France are famous for their eclectic sound known as "rumba flamenca". The group will perform at the Palladium later this month. Tickets range in price from $18 - $123.
