What to See and Do in Indy in April

Indy is really hopping with events in April! Following are just a few highlights:

Making April Concert

When: April 3, 9 p.m.
Where: The Underground at The Harrison Center for the Arts, 1505 Delaware, Indianapolis 46202, phone (317) 238-0998
Admission: $8 in advance, $10 at the door. Purchase tickets online.
What: Making April’s acoustics tour comes to Indy. Also performing will be Jimmy Robbins, The Record Life, and Harlequin.

Forbidden Broadway

When: Every Wednesday through May 13, doors open at 6 p.m., dinner begins at 6:30 p.m., show begins at 7:30 p.m.
Where: The Mansion at Oak Hill, 5801 E. 116th St., Carmel 46033
Admission: $45(includes dinner and show); $25 for show only (with 2-drink minimum). Reservations required. Contact Jennifer Zehr at (317) 843-9850 for tickets.
What: An off-Broadway hit musical review that parodies and pokes fun at 20 Broadway shows. A comic, entertaining tribute to theatre’s greatest shows, stars, and songwriters.

IPL Power Networking Breakfast

When: Thursday, April 9, 7-9:30 a.m.
Where: Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Central Indiana, 2960 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis phone (317) 464-2200
Admission: Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce members, $10 prepaid online, $20 at the door; non-members $25 prepaid online, $35 at the door.
What: Make one new business contact every two minutes and meet 36 new business professionals in less than two hours. Think speed dating, but with making business rather than romantic connections as the goal.

A Gesture of Kinship: Photographs by Bruce Hucko

When: April 11-July 5
Where: Eiteljorg Museum, 500 W. Washington St., Indianapolis 46204, phone (317) 636-9378
Hours: Mon-Sat, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sun, noon-5 p.m.
Admission: Adults, $8; ages 65 and over, $7; full-time students with ID, $5; ages 4 and under, free
What: Features documentary photos and interviews with young Navahos coupled with photos and interviews taken 20 years later. See what life is like on the reservation, what changes and what doesn’t, and how internal and external influences affect Navajo life.

A Brave New World Symposium: Navigating the Challenges of the 21st Century

When: April 14 at 6:30 p.m.
Where: IUPUI Campus Center, 420 University Blvd., 4th floor, Rooms B & C, Indianapolis, 46202
Admission: $8.99 with parking included; $5.99 without parking; students free. Purchase tickets online.
What: A community conversation about preparing to meet the challenges of the 21st century. Featured speakers include Scott Abbott, an authentic servant leader; Marleen New, with more than 25 years of marketing and advertising experience; and Dr. Uday Sukhatme, IUPUI Executive Vice Chancellor.

Creative Memories Recipe Organizing Event

When: April 17, 5:30-9 p.m.
Where: Gander Mountain Castleton Store, 5702 E. 86th St., Indianapolis
Admission: Free; limited to 30 participants
What: Learn how to organize recipes and create a personalized, professional-looking cookbook and memory book. A demonstration of digital scrapbooking techniques will be included. Hosted by professional organizer Lori Watson of Anyone & Everything Organized, LLC.

Indy Family Pet Fair

When: Friday, April 17, noon-9 p.m.; Saturday, April 18, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; Sunday, April 19, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Where: Toyota Exposition Hall at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, 1202 E. 38th St., Indianapolis 46205, phone (317) 927-7500
Admission: Adults, $7; ages 6-12 $3; ages 5 and under, free
What: A host of pet product and service providers will exhibit their wares, pet informational sessions will be held, and pet entertainment will include a variety of contests and a magic show. Note: Do not bring your pets to the Expo -- only animals that are involved in a contest or entertainment will be allowed.

Susan G. Komen Indianapolis Race for the Cure!

When: Saturday, April 18 at 9 a.m.
Where: IUPUI Campus, Indianapolis
Admission: $25, register online
What: Join over 25,000 currently registered participants in a 5k run/walk or the 1-mile Family Walk course to raise funds for breast cancer research.

A Night with Bobby V

When: Sunday, April 19, 9 p.m.-1 a.m.
Where: ICE Ultra Lounge Indy, 235 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis 46202
Admission: General admission, $20; VIP admission, $40; tickets for sale online and at Neal’s Barber Shop at 41st and Keystone, and at Picture Perfect at 38th and Pendleton Pike.

The Artists Upstairs featuring Cagney King: Studio 8

When: Friday, April 20, 5-9 p.m.
Where: Creative Arts & Events Center, 2 W. Main, Greenfield 46140
Admission: Free
What: The Artists Upstairs Studio Group opens its working artists’ studios to the public every 2nd Friday of the month. Meet the artists and enjoy wine, food, music, and entertainment. Works by Cagney King will be featured.

Riverdance

When: Friday, April 24, 8 p.m.; Saturday, April 25, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; Sunday, April 26, 1 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Where: The Murat Egyptian Room at the The Murat Theatre, 510 N. New Jersey St., Indianapolis 46204
Admission: $25-$65 through ticketmaster
What: Riverdance, a celebration of Irish music, song, and dance, will play five farewell performances at the Murat.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

When:April 28-May 3; Tue-Thu 7:30 p.m.; Fri 8 p.m.; Sat 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; Sun 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Where: Clowes Memorial Hall of Butler University, 4602 Sunset Ave., Indianapolis 46208
Admission: $22-$65; tickets must be purchased in advance; phone (317) 632-5182, ext. 103
What: Based on the 1968 motion picture, this musical features a car that can not only drive, but fly and sail as well.
