Runners will come from across the country and around the world to participate in the 2009 OneAmerica Indianapolis 500 Festival Mini-Marathon on Saturday, May 2. The largest half-marathon (13.1 miles) in the United States and the fifth largest running event in America, the Mini-Marathon was recognized in Runner's World as one of "A Half-Dozen Hot Halfs" in the world, based on runners' experiences.
Mini-Marathon Expo
The 500 Mini-Marathon Expo will take place on April 30 and May 1 at the Indiana Convention Center (100 S. Capitol Ave., Indianapolis 46225, phone (317) 262-3400), with over 80 companies and vendors in attendance, and will be open to the public. Race packets will be available for participants to pick up.
Mini-Marinarathon Pre-Race Pasta Party
On May 1, Marsh supermarkets will host the Mini-Marinarathon from 5:30-8 p.m. at the expo. Pasta, salads, and desserts will be served buffet-style, accompanied by live music. Tickets may be obtained at the event or in advance by calling 1-800-638-4296.
Post-Race Party at Military Park
The official Post-Race Party will be held from the conclusion of the mini-marathon until 2 p.m. at Military Park (100 N. West St., Indianapolis, phone (317) 884-4001). The party is free and open to the public, and will feature food, drinks, and race merchandise for sale, and live entertainment.
A Few Fun Mini-Marathon Facts
- The 2009 Mini-Marathon sold out on Dec. 26, 2008.
- The number of registrants in 2008 was 35,000.
- An additional 4,000 people participated in the 2008 Finish Line 500 Festival 5K (also sold out for 2009).
- The 2008 Mini-Marathon featured co-winners Lamech Mokono and Valentine Orare from Kenya.
- Approximately 40,000 people attended the 2008 Expo.
- Approximately 90,000 people attended the 2008 Post-Race Party.
