There's Plenty to do This July 4th in the Indianapolis Area

July 4th is a holiday of traditions. It's a time for boating out on the lake or shooting off fireworks at a family picnic. The weather is hot and an extra day off work means more time with friends and family. Maybe you'd like to do something a little different this year, or add an extra activity to the regular traditions. There are no shortage of options.

2013 July 4th Celebrations with a Charge

Most communities have their own firework displays and some even include free festivals. While a lot of 4th of July events are free, there are some great Independence Day events in the Indy area that charge a small admission. While it may take a little money to get in, you're going to get a lot of bang for your buck.

Glorious Fourth at Conner Prairie
Celebrate an authentic 1800s Fourth of July celebration at Conner Prairie. Explore 1836 Prairietown where festivities, games, songs and patriotic presentations await, including a reading of the Declaration of Independence.

Cost: $14/adults, $13/seniors 65 +, $9/youth (ages 2-12). Free for members and youth under 2. Past and present military personnel and their immediate family members receive free admission.

When: July 4; 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Symphony on the Prairie - Star Spangled Symphony
Listen to the 1812 Overture and Stars and Stripes Forever underneath the stars. The patriot concert ends with a stunning fireworks display over the prairie.

Cost: $29/adult, $12/children, children under 2 are free.

When: July 3-5; 8 p.m.

Indianapolis Indians Game and Fireworks
Spend the evening at Victory Field with your Indianapolis Indians. On July 4th, the Indians will play the Louisville Bats. After the game, enjoy a spectacular view of the Regions Bank Freedom Blast downtown fireworks.

Cost: $11 - $30 per ticket.

When: July 4; 6:05 p.m.

Concerts on the Canal
Enjoy an evening outdoors at this patriotic concert at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center.

Cost: Free seating available on the grass. Tables for 8 are $45, $40 for members. Tables for 4 are $35, $30 for members. Single seats at a community table are $10, $9 for members.

4th of July Ice Cream Social at the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site
Children of all ages will enjoy activities in the REI Real Estate Services LLC kids tent where kids can have their faces painted and make crafts. Families can explore the grounds with the Passport to History treasure hunt and enjoy a variety of lawn games and the sweet Dixieland sound of the White River Jazz Band playing live music!. Admission price includes one scoop of ice cream.

Cost: $14 member adults; - $17 adults; $6 students (5-11); children under 4 are free

When: July 4; 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
